Groenkloof Nature Reserve Hiking Trail Review

We explored the Yellow Trail at Groenkloof Nature Reserve, a place I’ve visited for years. The first thing that catches your eye is the enormous trees standing tall in the parking area.

These trees have stood here for decades, if not centuries. I recall a moment when I took my son out to experience nature, and we captured a photo of him beside one of these trees, where he appeared so tiny compared to it. Now, let’s return to the hike.

The start of the Groenkloof Nature Reserve Hiking Trail

Groenkloof Nature Reserve is well located if you live in the Brooklyn, Centurion, Pretoria area. It took me 15 minutes to get there, and my vehicle had barely warmed up. See location

We were a small group that decided to brave the 10.5 km Yellow Trail. This trail starts by going up, has a 266-meter elevation gain, and loops. It took the group almost 4 hours to complete. There was no rush, and mid-hike, we took a proper rest.

The air was dry. High up the trail, in some places, there was tree cover and some greenery. The open areas were pale and dusty. Along the trail, we were lucky enough to see some wildlife. We encountered Zebras, an Ostrich, and a Giraffe. This was an unexpectedly nice addition to the hike.

Afterwards, there was a container shop managed by the owner where you could buy something to eat and drink. She had snacks, muffins, sodas, coffee, and tea, and I recall seeing a few beers in the fridge. Having a cold one after a hike is always welcome. 🍻

The Groenkloof Nature Reserve has a lot to offer: hiking and mountain biking trails, 4×4 trails, a picnic area, a children’s play area, horse riding, etc. It’s a great place to spend a day in nature.

That’s it from me on the Groenkloof Nature Reserve Hiking Trail Review. May this inspire you to visit them.
