Aerial Cableway Hartbeespoort Review

This is the Hartbeespoort Aerial Cableway, probably the most popular tourist attraction in the area.

The cableway is 1.2 kilometres long and goes up about 354 metres from the bottom station to the top of the Magaliesberg, about 1600 metres above sea level. It takes about 6 minutes to reach the top.

History

The Cableway was constructed in 1973. Since then, it has been a top visitor attraction for overseas travellers and locals. It has also become popular with the hang-gliding and paragliding communities.

The cableway was completely revamped and modernised by the Swiss in 2010. They have also received a four-star grade from the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa and featured on Tripadvisor and Get Your Guide.

The cableway has a long history in the travel and tourism sector in South Africa.

Things To Do

On the day, a few of my mates came along to see what the cableway had to offer. We were there just after 08:00 when I was not busy. I recall experiences where we had to queue up to an hour to buy tickets. Try to avoid this by purchasing your tickets online and being there early.

We all fit into a gondola that seats up to 6 people. The ride to the top can be somewhat of a challenge if you’re uncomfortable with heights. They also have these 2-seaters that offer a different experience. It’s ideal for you and a loved one. Either way, the scenery is incredible.

We spent about two hours up there. We took in the panoramic views, had something to eat, and did the Dassie Walk, which gives you incredible views from all angles.

Activities:

  1. The actual Cableway Ride. It’s fun and not something you do every day.
  2. Downhill Mountain Bike Trail
  3. Hike Up to the Cableway offered by the Iron Throne Trail Park next door.
  4. Dassie Walk with views from all angles.
  5. Fly Harties offers paraglide and abseiling.
  6. There is a SPA with various special treatments for individuals and couples.
  7. Then there is a Kids’ Zone play area with a jungle gym and trampolines. Assistance is on hand to take care of the kids.

So, while the kids are busy, you can have something to eat and drink. Some eateries will satisfy all palates.

Where To Shop

They also have a curio shop where you can buy goodies related to the Cableway. I like to buy fridge magnets from unique places I visit.

Last Thoughts

Lastly, they also have conferencing facilities where you can host team-building sessions, weddings, corporate engagements, etc.

Overall, I think it was well worth the money and time. There is something on offer for all ages.

I have also created a Playlist where I answer the most searched questions related to the Harties cableway. You can check them out here.👇

That’s it from me on the Aerial Cableway Hartbeespoort Review. This should give you a better idea of what to expect and inspire you to go and check them out.
